Friday was a fun day. I got to spend the day with my friends Kim and Courtney from Michigan, my Haitian friends, Rosie, Patrick and Frentz. We started out by going to the department store that sells pretty much anything. We were looking for Rubbermaid bins to use in our storage area at the crèche. It was an adventure but we did get bins. Much smaller than planned and more expensive than I would have liked. We got back to the guesthouse to drop a few things off before going to the crèche. I walked in the house and the cooks were trying to explain to me that they didn’t have enough food to feed everyone for dinner tonight. All of a sudden this became my issue. Gertrude was gone to the beach so I guess I was the only one with any money to get to the store. So we loaded up the truck and back to the store we went.
Finally about lunch time we made it to the crèche and got to start working. I have to be honest that I kind of enjoy the work day from 12 to 2pm!!!! Can’t really get much done but it is kind of a nice change.
The best part of our day was going to visit the ApParent Project. I met the women that started the project earlier this week when we had our girl’s night out. She has a ministry in her home that focuses on empowering women and kids on the street and helping them keep their families together. It was amazing. One of their projects is to make jewelry. The beads are made out of rolled scraps of paper.

They are beautiful. We had too much fun. We got to see them make the jewelry, meet the artists and learn their stories. It was so fun to buy stuff and see the people that will benefit. We came back and showed the other guests and they are making a trip there today. It was a fun time.
We spent the evening playing cards, visiting and sharing candy! Just a fun day with unexpected turns. But as I have said before those are usually my best days.
This is the women that made ONE of the necklaces that I bought! She is so beautiful!

How awesome that every day you get to learn more and more about the great things that God is doing in Haiti! So often when I read your blogs I think of the song that Peter played for us our last morning together at the guesthouse: “Greater things are yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city . . . ” You are a part of those great things that God is working in Haiti.

I have made some of these necklaces! Mom & I have made them from the front of church bullitans. Always so full of color and then added some silver or colored beads inbetween. Did they spray anything to coat the paper?
